Young Girl Finds Light in Radio While Homeless
By: Kristen Watts
ATLANTA--19-year-old Zayla Brantley is the host of the radio show “The Trend Settaz,” which airs on Fusion Radio. Brantley first aired her show when she was 16 years old after being inspired by her mother, Fanitra Brantley, who is also a radio host.

Brantley’s main goal within her show is to lead and inspire others. Occasionally, she hosts different conferences to share her story and empower other young females. Most recently, she held a skating event where all the proceeds were donated to a local youth group.

“As a leader, I feel as if you’re not really successful until you’ve given back to the community that helped build you up for the position that you are in now,” Brantley said.

While hosting “The Trend Settaz,” Brantley’s family was homeless. Having to move from house to house, staying with family and friends was very draining for Brantley. The only thing that saved her was the radio show, which she described as the “light at the end of the tunnel”.

Brantley stated that she is thankful for the progress she has made, but she is determined to accomplish more. Therefore, she plans on turning her radio show into a television talk show.

Brantley’s advice for success was to be independent. She says, “Never allow anyone to belittle your dream. Only you know what you’re capable of and don’t let anyone tell you different. If you allow the negativity of others to control you and what you do, you won’t be able to go anywhere in life. Live your dream, not someone else’s!”
